WPDC 2025: Paving the Way for Data Privacy Policy
World Privacy Day 2025 brought together esteemed institutions and thought leaders to raise awareness and explore the real path to data privacy in Indonesia. But do we truly need to protect our privacy? If so, who stands behind this effort?
Recognizing this urgent need, Privasimu, in collaboration with institutions such as Indonesia Re, Bank Mandiri, Findanet, Binus University, Infobank, and the Netherlands Embassy, proudly celebrated World Privacy Day 2025 to drive greater awareness of data privacy in Indonesia.
The event opened with Vice Minister of Law and Human Rights, Prof. Eddy Hiariej, who emphasized how Indonesia’s Personal Data Protection Law (UU PDP) 2022 is shaping the country’s regulatory framework to strengthen data privacy protections. Mrs. Friderica Widyasari Dewi followed with compelling insights, showcasing the government’s ongoing efforts to safeguard citizens' personal information.
The discussion continued through thought-provoking talk shows featuring experts from academia, financial institutions, and government agencies. These discussions explored best practices in privacy governance, privacy management, and leadership in data protection—critical elements for building a robust data privacy culture.
The event concluded with Mrs. Beatrix Santi Anugrah, who left attendees with a powerful message: Building a strong privacy policy begins with privacy behavior. Privacy in Indonesia cannot be a mere replication of global standards—it must be adapted to the nation’s unique cultural context.
What Comes Next?
Findanet—launched during the event—stands as a dedicated organization committed to strengthening data privacy and policy advocacy in Indonesia. But why does a country need a strong data privacy policy in the first place?
A well-defined data privacy framework is not just about compliance—it’s about trust. It protects identities from fraud, shields individuals and institutions from harassment, and mitigates cybercrime risks. Data privacy is not merely a legal requirement; it is a fundamental responsibility, a pillar of customer trust, and a key differentiator for organizations that prioritize security.
Looking Ahead
On World Privacy Day 2025, we took the first steps toward shaping a stronger data privacy policy and fostering responsible digital behavior. The journey continues, and we look forward to advancing these efforts on World Privacy Day 2026.
